States Rights and REAL Id

States like Maine protested that not only was this law an unwarranted intrusion on the privacy rights of their residents, but it was a de facto national ID card in its own right, yet another foot in the door towards a totalitarian police state. The costs of implementation would be too high, projected to be in the tens of millions in each state, and would have to be passed on to the citizens somehow.

  1. #1    Tenth Amendment center, that's a bookmark. Thanx populist101.
Another massive database with Biometrics and total access to everyone but you.
Fight like hell when they try to implant the chip behind your ear.
55 MPH was such a stupid idea, Nadir and Nixon, get that credit. Split enviros off from everyone who drove on the freeways and stifled the growth of more efficient cars, as did the first wave of Air Pollution Contol specifications and safety mandates.
Had they mandated a clean air standard and let manufacturers meet that standard, That would have (eventually did) worked, but they specified specific systems, not all of which were even viable technology, and by refusing to review for f...

  2. #2    The Caprice a junk car??? I drove my parents' Caprice till we had to hotwire it and start it with a toggle switch. ::shed tear:: But, yeah, I do prefer late 60's cars. Speaking of "chipped" --- it's not just gonna be our bodies. They're starting with our cars, our cell phones, even our printers. You think you're getting a deal with "fast lane" bar codes? Hey...even the fast lane cars have to wait in the traffic jam 2 miles from the tolls. And wait till every car has a built-in ID like that and you'll get your speeding tickets and running yellow lights tickets in the mail. Nice.
Banning smoking is a different animal altogether. It stops an actual abuse. Those o...

  3. #3    The 80's caprice was a lurking doppleganger of the 60s Impalas, same truck chassis we'd been building since the War.{and are still building in the guise of SUVs)
No joke on the EZPass, A friend who is always up and down the eastern seaboard got a notice from EZpass that he'd traveled the length of the jersey turnpike in too few minutes! We have video cameras now on I-95 that cover every inch and have what appears to be an EZPass reader mounted on the poles too. If so, they can link your ID to your visual, in flight, in realtime. (little flash of Enemy of the State) I've heard other people tell me that the On-Star has suddenly started talking out of their dashboard, telling them they are dri...

  4. #4    WOW! I thought I got carried away with a subject now and again. Not complaining, mind you. Impressed is more like it. And that's for both of you.

  5. #5    "A friend who is always up and down the eastern seaboard got a notice from EZpass that he'd traveled the length of the jersey turnpike in too few minutes! " OMFG!!! It's already here!
As for "belittling" the crowd huddled outside smoking, I meant only to tease. I've hung out there with them, too, so it's not necessarily only smokers. And on the drafting oldest first, I give it a big thumbs up. In fact, I once harassed an entire crowd of older pro-military guys by telling them we should send THEM over to Iraq because no one would care if the DU curdled THEIR old sperm.
