LET THIS BE A WARNING!!

19 Jul 2008 A critical germ lab at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lost power last week because the agency had taken two backup generators out of service for upgrades, CDC officials said Friday... The backup power failure -- the second in 13 months -- is the type predicted years ago by some CDC engineers. And it has heightened concerns in Congress about lab safety at the Atlanta agency, which experiments on smallpox, Ebola, anthrax and other deadly germs. If these germs become loose in this country all other problems will pale in comparison!

  1. #1    This brings to mind the premise for stephen king's novel, The Stand, Mabey not as far fetched as one might have thought.

  2. #2    They'd still be locked up in secure storage rooms, wouldn't they?

  3. #3    No #2 without negative air pressure to seal the "secure storage rooms" they can become loose ie: airborn virus While not likely, not at all impossable and last I checked you can't hold air, also if I remember correctly most viruses are self replicating so if even 1 or 2 break containment ???

That's all assuming that they don't have something synthetic and extra special in containment there.

  5. #5    Viruses can't replicate on their own they need to be in cells and often fairly specific cells to do so. But a point well taken is, it does only take 1 or 2 in the "right" environment, most likely a human and they will take off and grow and be ready to jump to the next person that's why the containment is so strict for these organisms. I've never had any desire to work with bugs like these at all.

  6. #6    A biological catastrophe is a chilling thought. We are also vulnerable to a paralyzing EMP which would bring this country to a communication, transportation, electrical, and essential distribution standstill. The deaths of many would result.

  7. #7    Not just the Stephen King book The Stand, but also the movie "12 Monkeys" either one of which will scare the pants off you - and the 'anthrax" scare right after 9/11 - strange that it only seemed to affect Democratic congresspersons....but was there any kind of investigation? NOPE not once they found out that the anthrax strain belonged to the Dept of Defense....

Would this be the reason for the extreme reluctancee of Democrats to do the job that we expected them to do when we elected them in 2006?

  9. #9    This an interesting story, especially in context with the new videos that show approximately 500,000 plastic coffins which are stored in Georgia, and from what I've been able to ascertain, the numbers have increased from when it was first reported. The nation seems to be on edge, and many very credible Bloggers are predicting that something "big" is on the horizon, but none of us know exactly what it is. If the CDC had a breach of security that allowed many of their experimental pathogens to become airborne, the catastrophe could easily warrant the use of those coffins and help to usher-in martial law. Let's hope it's just another coincidence, however, the stockpiling of these coff...
