Be Prepared for Police Violence at the RNC Protest

A few weeks ago I wrote a piece entitled "Thoughts on the Upcoming RNC Protests" which (as of writing this) still ranks fairly high in the Google News search results for "RNC Protests". In that article I provided a history of past convention protests, reasons why people will be protesting this convention, and I gave some tips on how to prepare for it if you plan on attending. This current essay is in response to some of the few critiques of that piece which appeared around the web.

  1. #1    Again... I am not calling for violence, I am merely pointing out that the police are historically and inevitably violent at these protests. And I am not in favor of condemning those who have had their lives destroyed by the system and so are now ready to fight back. The police are supposed to be disciplined even when dealing with rowdy protesters but they are heavy-handed even with utter pacifists.

  2. #2    You are correct about this. No one must ever speak up against the great corporate empire. But, I bet if there is violence at the RNC the media will try to ignore it as best they can because they want to make everything look perfect for McCain.

  3. #3    Bullsh!t you aren't! You make the strongest case FOR voilence you can, even if you have to lie to do it.
"The police are going to abuse them whether they peaceably assemble or not "
Total bullsh!t and if you'd ever been to a peaceful demo, one not destroyed by thugs busting up stuff, you would know how wrong you are. But despite the blog title, I doubt you have any history on the streets, you're just a poseur who thinks it's glorious to fight cops and you obviously don't give a fu(k about the rest of the people who want to express that anger at the GOP peacefully, legally.
Do not make any claim to being Liberal or Progressive, you are ADVOCATING for a police state and those of ...

  5. #5    dissent has always been met with state violence...remember Attica, remember the civil rights movement, remember the Ludlow massacre? When the oligarchy feels threatened they react with absolute violence...nothing new...the rethugs and the dumbocrats do not want their drunken orgies to be interrupted...and our militarized police departments have spend millions training their goons to make sure the drunken orgies/conventions are not interrupted by "the people"...kudos to those who are taking the time to put themselves on the line to disrupt the hypocracy of these phoney elections...

  6. #6    "We believe we have no other alternative than peaceful protest," said Khawaja. "We believe popular resistance should be a national strategy, but it is not easy to convince others. It's much harder than you think to convince people to come on a peaceful procession. Civil action takes time and a lot of education."

  8. #8    Are we talking about our own Denver Police Dept? The same one that has the highest police shooting record in the nation? The same police dept that doesn't know the meaning of civil rights? Who love to use their tazers multiple times on the same person just to see them squirm around on the ground? Yep, that's the one.
