HOUSE PASSES HEALTH CARE BILL - Democratic Underground

The US House of Representatives passed the Health Care Bill, moving the process on to the Senate now to take up their own version of a Health Care plan. The bill garnered Republican support from a single member, Joseph Cao (pronounced Gow) from Louisiana. The final vote 220-215. In the end, only 39 Democrats voted against the legislation and, again, Republican support from across the aisle was gained with a single vote of support by Rep. Cao (R-LA) Read more: http://www.cspan.org

  1. #1    Here is the story from the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/health/policy/08health.html?_r=1&hp

Before everyone starts jumping up and down, I am curious as to what kinds of concessions the Dems made besides the abortion one?

Here is one quote from the article: "Democrats were forced to make major concessions on insurance coverage for abortions to attract the final votes to secure passage, a wrenching compromise for the numerous abortion-rights advocates in their ranks. They hope to make changes to that amendment during negotiations with the Senate, which will now become the main battleground in the health care fight as Democrats there ready their own bill for what is likely to be extensive floor debate."

And in addition the manipulation of Medicare is going to take a hit. Did you realize that Medicare was not a part of the health reform? I could have sworn that it would be. Isn't that why it is called Medicare?

Oh well, this does get curiouser and curiouser!!!

  2. #2    So close.

Thank you Dennis Kucinich and progressives for voting against this trillion dollar giveaway to the health mafia. (Fake Progessive Weiner had his twenty minutes of fame, withdrew his Single Payer amendment, and voted for the health mafia.) This evil bill was carried by Blue Dog Dimocrap votes because it bans health exchange plans from covering abortions.

Dimocraps are no longer the lesser weasels. Dimocraps are Rethugs.

P.S. Sparrows, despite the high flying words the bill doesn't really reform Medicare. I just takes a few hundred billion from Medicare to give to the health mafia.

  3. #3    You express my sentiments exactly, Mike. I was being facetious. Medicare will be reformed and those using it now, may not like the impact. It appears it is for the negative, like everything else.

  4. #4    Mondale had the answer to all this last time it came round. A bill to cover all CHILDREN under medicare.
Hard for even Republicans to vote against children... Then expand it down line allowing anyone to buy into medicare.
A 1900 page bill reduced to two sentences...
I have also noticed that the words PUBLIC and GOVERNMENT have come to mean THOSE LESS WHITE THAN ME...
It it is what has the blue dogs peeing their pants...

Also the bill goes to the senate, the people bought and paid for by the health care industry .We will see how many other poisen pills are added before an "acceptable" bill is passed

  10. #10    As we have learned to expect, everything this 'Democratic' administration and congress does will be disappointing.

America after Bush needed a Barack, but got a Barry instead.
