Gordon Brown puts up a fight as Afghanistan war support falls

Gordon Brown will today make clear he will not be "deterred, dissuaded or diverted" from Britain's mission in Afghanistan, despite a new poll showing nearly three-quarters of people believe UK troops should be withdrawn within 12 months. He will use a keynote speech to stress that "we cannot, must not and will not walk away," adding that international efforts "will succeed or fail together".

  1. #1    We will never 'win' in Afghanistan - there is nothing to 'win'.

  2. #2    It's not about winning the war. That's the last thing the war profiteers want. It's about keeping the war going for as long as possible. That's the "win" for war profiteers. That's why both corporate parties started and continued so many wars.

  3. #3    Afghan patriots and freedome fighters enjoyed killing Brits years ago, and they'll enjoy continuing the practice, just as we United Statesians enjoyed killing them in two wars--1776-1814.

  4. #4    I had higher hopes for Gordon Brown when he managed to force Tony Blair to retire. but as subsequent events prove, Britain has its own version of the military-industrial-corporatist complex, which thrives of profits stemming from the expansion of death and destruction in the name of neo-colonialism. All he is doing by promising to continue the UK's participation in George W. Bush's eternal war is to facilitate the return of the Tories to power.
