The Failure of the Republican Extremists on the Right

The result in the NY 23rd, where the candidate of the right wing crazies lost a seat that was reliably Republican for generations, just might signal that the GOP has much bigger troubles than it ever thought. This just might open the way for Palin in 2012, and that’s good for comedy writers and the Dems. Bring on the Pageant walking!

  1. #1    Ask Corzine and Deeds what they think about the right wing failure.

  2. #2    Yeah, I agree with Osnoba. I consider NY-23 to be a minor setback in the agenda of the extreme right. On the other hand, I don't think Corzine and Deeds' problems stemmed from the right-wing agenda; that is an over-simplification. Corzine was unpopular all on his own, in a state that has a 65% approval of Obama. Similarly in VA, Obama enjoys steady popularity. I just think everyone realized Corzine was a dick, and Deeds didn't really want to work all that hard to be Governor.

  3. #3    The New Jersey vote signals a problem for Democrats. Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 10 percent margin in New Jersey, yet the Republican challenger beat the Democratic incumbent by 4 percentage points. Voters concerned with the economy voted for the Republican, meanwhile, Obama's supporters in the presidential election stayed away from the polls in droves. There is a disillusionment among Democrats with the direction of the party under Obama's leadership and the capitulation of Congress to business interests in the bank bailout and in the health care sellout. One can read it in comments on this website daily, and here we have this repudiation of Democratic leadership in New Jersey. Democrats have a clear warning here -- Stop being Republicans, govern from the left or lose.
