Cheney Says Torture Was a 'Success,' Wants Memos Released to Prove It

"Former Vice President Dick Cheney challenged President Obama Monday to release top-secret CIA memos that allegedly states the torture of prisoners was an intelligence 'success'...Cheney defended the Bush administration's torture program and claimed that it saved American lives...'And I've now formally asked the CIA to take steps to declassify those memos so we can lay them out there and the American people have a chance to see what we obtained and what we learned and how good the intelligence was. If we’re going to have this debate, let’s have an honest debate...Cheney said the interrogation of 'war on terror' suspects was 'done legally; it was done in accordance with our constitutional practices and principles.' But those assurances ring hollow.”

  1. #1    the only media I could find this one earlier today was FOX, which I didn't want to insult anyone by posting - glad you got it from an actual source

  2. #2    The photo selected is appropriate, too, don't you think? I'm curious about his "formal request to the CIA". What's up with that, and since when do past VPs have any such authority? (And, why didn't "he" release these memos before?) Can we make such formal requests? It is scary to see Cheney still engaged in the political scene.

  4. #4    Cheney, the leader of the repub party, no want everything released. Seems strange from a person that when in power wanted everything hidden. Of course, what would one expect from the repubs, do as I say not as I do party. This guy needs to go away or better yet let the Democrates use him as their posterBOY for what is wrong with the repub. Hannity is already a posterboy for teabagging. It seems from whatis now coming out, Hannity has a lot of experience in that area as both a pictcher and catcher.

...to court, and to a prison cell. He has publicly confessed to US and International crimes.

  9. #9    Let's see Cheney said that the President and VP could unclassify material as they saw fit. For example Cheney unclassified Valery Plame as a covert CIA agent. If torture protected us and saved us from terrorists attacks, why didn't Cheney unclassify them himself?

  11. #11    All torture has done is radicalize the moderate muslims of the world and serve as a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda....Nothing was done "On behalf of the American People"...This was playing dirty to steal the oil and justify Illegal war!!!!It was used to procure specious information for endless war, and to spread fear among the american people!!!!!!!

  12. #12    If it turns out the Cheney is right and torturing people helped save American lives, it changes nothing. Torture is a crime in the United States. Cheney and Bush had no legal authority to use it on anyone for any reason. They have admitted to doing it anyway. At their trials any evidence they present attesting to torture having saved American lives will serve as a mitigating factor not an excuse. Last time I checked, "ends justify the means" arguments did not serve as a legal defense.

  13. #13    Let me spend 3 days with dick. By using varying enhanced interrogation techniques, included (but not limited to) waterboarding, rodents and insect in small enclosed spaces, some dentist's tools, possibly with some dentist help, pair of needle-nose pliers, pack of cigarettes and a lighter, some towels etc., I could get a confession out of dick. I could make him say ANYTHING I wanted to hear.

By this token, how is it that torture is effective?

Release the relevant documents and call his bluff.

  15. #15    Yes, the documents should be released. The wingnuts will then complain that releasing them has weakened national security.

Because the wingnuts know that if you searched the entire Dim leadership you wouldn't find enough vertebrae to make a single backbone.

  16. #16    In Cheney's eyes and his kabal they believe that even death is a success if the can kill someone and death is the result.they believe they have succeeded.
what a fucked-up philisophy !! no wonder he is the Darth Vader we all know and
despise.would you care to comment, Cheney? you know it's true.

  18. #18    When Hannity went down on his knees to teabag Darth Cheney, lord of the dark side, what was really scary was the Cheney wheezing and hissing with each breath. Couple of times it appeared he took a jolt from his built-in defibrillator: "Yes, Sean, your question is so sycophantal I need a jolt of juice just to agree." Bzzzzt.

  19. #19    Right, Dick..more of your cherry-picked, politically slanted, completely partisan, bogus memos...will clear it all up..weren't you the guy who forced the Scientists to "alter" their reports on global warming, the EPA on clean air and water, FEMA on Katrina, Intelligence sources to "prove" there were weapons of mass destruction...your secret testimony behind closed doors (no swearing in, no recording, just your worthless, lying word on 9/11, Plame outing, etc.) going to the Supreme Court to protect the identity of top oil executives (while figuring out a way to screw the citizens) in your top secret "Energy Commission" (dividing up Iraq's oil)..? And you think I would believe any "memos" you released, as proof of how well torture works....? I hope they hang your evil ass
