  2. #2    i support it for environmental reasons (all that printing on paper), but that's what is keeping the USPS alive. It's also the most practical and cost-effective format of advertising that there is.

  3. #3    " i support it for environmental reasons (all that printing on paper), but that's what is keeping the USPS alive." Good point, regroce. But maybe USPS needs to rethink their purpose and give UPS and FedEx some competition.

  4. #4    "...most practical and cost-effective format of advertising..."

The constant, pervasive bombardment we receive, inducing us to buy stuff we don't need, stuff that often is harmful to our health or the environment, is one of the reasons we have traveled so terribly far from sustainability.

  5. #5    That stuff stays in the entryway of my apartment building, (nobody picks it up) in a convenient can. Every so often, I wheel one of the recycling cart-cans around and fill 'er up. I don't call that effective advertising. I admit that we pick up a copy of the supermarket ad once in a while. But that serves the really useful purpose of lighting up the charcoal chimney for the barbecue.

  6. #6    I support it for environmental reasons, but if I were in the direct marketing advertising business I may be less supportive. ;)

  7. #7    now, now, klad - you can blanket a city w/ direct mail ads for a fraction of the cost of tv ads. And while some just toss them away w/o reading, more people walk away from their tv during a commercial. It's a permanent ad. And that mail ad can be kept, referred to later, viewed at the time and place of its recipient.....
