Banker fury over tax 'witch-hunt'

[NOT a satire...] "Senior executives on both sides of the Atlantic warned of an exodus of talent from some of the biggest names in US finance, saying the 'anti-American' measures smacked of 'a McCarthy witch-hunt' that would send the country 'back to the stone age'...'Finance is one of America's great industries, and they're destroying it,' said one banker at a firm that has accepted public money. 'This happened out of haste and anger over AIG, but we're not like AIG.' The banker added: 'It's like a McCarthy witch-hunt . . . This is the most profoundly antiAmerican thing I've ever seen.'"

  1. #1    Perhaps there should be a requirement of all those employed in the finanicial sector: spend six months every five years actually WORKING on a REAL job. Work on a farm, teach, work on an assembly line or in a restaurant. It might put their own so-called jobs in perspective and remind them that "finance" is NOT an "industry", and that value does not come from gambling and rising interest rates.

  2. #2    These finance fiends need to get an honest job, one in which they PRODUCE something. We who do actually make things (rather than deals) know what the word 'product' means: "a thing produced by labor or effort." Since 1695, the word has referred to "thing or things produced". The economic or commercial meaning of product was first used by political economist Adam Smith[4]. In marketing, a product is anything that can be offered to a market that might satisfy a want or need (from WikiPedia). In other words, a product is anything that can be sold to make money, to these financial wizards. Right or wrong, good for you-bad for you, poisonous, deadly -- doesn't matter to these soulless automatons, as long as they can turn a profit. And DENSE - wow, are they. They have not realized that their time has passed, their way is in the past -- and will soon be radically altered to bring them into line with us, we who actually work and produce tangible products or services.

  3. #3    An "exodus of talent". Talent at what; making a lot of money for themselves? Ripping people off? Shifting money from the poor to the rich?

  4. #4    So talented they drove the economy right off a cliff. Hey bankers! Hear that sound? It's 300M of the world's smallest violins playing just for you...

  5. #5    the talent that made this country great is not talent that creates money out of thin air like the bankers and those on Wall Street do. The talent in this country that has made us great is the engineer, the factory worker, the builder and even Joe the Plumber. Unfortunately, the bastards that control the money, have decided to out source the real talent of this country and succeeded in destroying our middle class and eventually our whole country.

  8. #8    Let them walk. Where are they going to go? Who's going to hire them? "Hi, I need a job. I just ruined my own company and helped bankrupt the United States, as well as a number of other countries." Great resume.

  9. #9    FINANCE IS NOT AN INDUSTRY.
They don't produce anything but debt and human misery.

And, actually, they 'commodify' the products of actual industry and take a large cut of the proceeds.

It's like listening to a tapeworm scream after killing it's host. Pathetic.
