I guess I have to retract my response to an earlier report on this incident. I referred to a known act of manufactured provocation by the Germans, to justify invading Poland.

There are still obvious conflicting reports on the details. Still, seeing the border-sealing zealotry in this country, it is hard to fault Venezuela for closing easy access from a hostile neighbor.

I dismiss Uribe's remarks. Such words coming from the land of death squads ring rather hollow. He is providing bases to the US, which threaten the hemisphere.

The class includes all business and residential customers of Verizon FiOS, DSL, and dial-up Internet services in the United States at any time from October 1, 2004 to May 31, 2005, who had use of one or more email accounts on the Verizon.net email platform. Verizon adjusted its spam filters to aggressively block messages from domains in Europe and Asia. Instead of simply routing suspected spam into a separate folder, Verizon bounced messages back to the sender without notifying the intended recipient. Verizon has announced a tentative settlement that would award customers $3.50 for each month between October 1, 2004 and May 31, 2005 that he or she was a customer of Verizon Internet Service. That was in 2006 and it doesn’t seem that Verizon Central has changed its policy in any noticeable way, regardless of whopping $28/ customer cost. Now we’re wondering how Verizon got the idea in the first place that they had a right to secretly make decisions regarding what can flow through emails without accountability..

What is even more disturbing is realizing that Verizon’s anti-spam campaign could easily be twisted to disguise censorship, a kind of “No Fly” list for emails. Just like the No Fly list, once you’ve made the list you won’t know why and you may never be removed.

I agree with the writer of this piece - and he is the editor of the Capital Times in Madison-

(by the way, my mention of the Onion was to point out that the original editors of the satire news paper – who started the enterprise when they were attending university at UW Madison, likely and cleverly were lampooning an actual editor of a small town newspaper by naming their “editor” a name that is a take off on Mr. Zweifel- - and (again displaying their level of cleverness) apparently zweibel is German for Onion, and zweifel means doubt in German)

What I was pointing out- which is apparently lost on some who apparently think of the discussion of what needs to be done to end the 'greater depression' has something to do with partisan politics...it doesn't

- in fact- as I point out above- both of the corporate ass licking sycophants to the really wealthy, the rich who actually control the legislative and enforcement elements of the US as opposed to any elected official who are simply their bought and paid for handmaidens, are to blame for abdicating their responsibilities and swooning over big business protecting and enabling 'theorists' and for their believing that 'the market will solve all human and terrestrial problems'...it doesn't and it cannot

The 'theory' is abject propaganda that is countered by historical fact- - the free market is amoral (and those that play with it are immoral) and it always will need to be assiduously watched over by actual public servants who are supposed to be mindful of and protective of the public's interest.

We are here today because of Bill Clinton's signing the bill to do away with Glass Stegal (Graham Leach Bliley), because the bill was written and supported by both of Bill Clinton's Secretaries of the Treasury (one of which, Summers, went on to make a boat load of cash at a hedge fund and the other, Rubin who went directly to one of the world's largest banks to make tens of millions due to the end of the protections that Glass Stegal provided US citizens for 50 years).

Yes- GWBush agreed with all of these theories regarding the free market and pushed deregulation to frightening and dizzying new heights...that is true- so he also is culpable - specifically, for keeping the smarmy gadfly Greenspan around to give money away at zero interest to private bankers helped send the world's economy off the edge, among other things-

I must point out- however- it was not Clinton or Bush who, after the greed-fest almost ended the world as we know it ushering in the 'greater depression' in the last year of Bush, it was Obama who gave the keys to the bank vault and government enforcement to the (and sorry to use caps here, but I think it is appropriate in this instance) SAME F*CKING IDIOTS who made it possible for the crisis to happen, and then after it happened, who gave 13 trillion in taxpayer cash and taxpayer guarantees to a miniscule group of unelected, unaccountable, very very rich private people - - these are the folks Mr. Change has brought in to rectify the situation.

get your head out your partisan butt and realize the party of the wealthy is in charge- it was once headed by Clinton- then by GWBush and now by change boy Obama and it is ensuring that you and your children will be pay for their mistakes, greed and incompetence until the people realize that they are in charge and - - throw the greedy bums out!

Really- it is not Clinton’s fault, it is not Bush’s fault and it is not Obama’s fault- the fault lies with an apathetic and uneducated citizenry who did not do its job and instead elected phony rich boy wanna bes instead of real leaders-

With all the attempts to shift blame on to political correctness, an invention of the Democrats, according to the opposition, it's good to see someone spot this Ft Hood shooting for what it is -- one person of a growing population that has gone from sociopathic to psychopathic, to psychotic. The people have been driven into fear for so long that for some this is normality...and the way to combat it is through expression of that very poor reality -- anger. And some people are incited to physical violence by all this. We have about a quarter of the US population who are either either controlled by or who act like fear-biting dogs. Cheney is a good example -- he was so scared he resided in an undisclosed place for most of his tenure. And his solution to the fearful situation in the world is to bite -- in his case, to bomb, to destroy.

We've been developing new commerce and have continued using people, even today we're doing that. But, shifting to low-cost foreign labor is having a very harsh short-term effect on Americans.

We need to change some incentives to somewhat hinder the outsourcing of jobs and to somewhat incent home-grown job creation. Then, adjust as needed to get the results we need.

We need to fix the big problems and one of those is disparity in wealth and all that leads to. It might even be more accurate to say it's not the disparity as much as it's the system the Rich have engendered which has led to the vast majority of Americans slowly gradually slipping over the edge into bankruptcy, unemployment, lost retirement savings in the market, no healthcare insurance, sometimes home loss due to foreclosure and even death from lack of healthcare. Those are big problems. Stray dogs aren't.

The US has perpetrated what Nuremberg defined as crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity for most of its history. Naturally, it supports prosecution of its enemies for such things, but considers itself exempt.

What would the world be like if the US were held to such standards of justice? What would the world be like if progressives, lefties, liberals, etc refused to vote for candidates who support American exceptionalism?
